2019/04/02

On April 2, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Damdin Tsogtbaatar of Mongolia in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed that connected by mountains and rivers, China and Mongolia share weal and woe. The two peoples have a long history of exchanges, and border areas between the two countries enjoy long-term peace and stability. The two sides can get a lot of useful experience while reviewing the development progress of China-Mongolia relations over the past 70 years. First, both sides should cherish the tradition of friendship and adhere to the right direction. Despite the vicissitudes and ups and downs in China-Mongolia relations, friendship and cooperation have remained the mainstream, and both sides put the development of relations between the two countries at an important place in respective foreign policies. Second, both sides should closely follow the trend of the times and seek common development. The world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Peace and development are the theme of our times, and the revitalization of Asia is an irresistible trend. Both sides have made joint efforts to make full use of complementary advantages, and constantly achieved important outcomes from practical cooperation. Third, the two sides should accommodate each other's core concerns and consolidate the political foundation. Both sides have respected each other’s core interests and constantly increased political mutual trust, and relations between the two countries have steadily become comprehensive strategic partnership. The Chinese side appreciates the Mongolian side for upholding the one-China policy, supporting the Chinese side’s stance on issues concerning China’s core interests, and properly handling relevant sensitive issues.

Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese side’s policy of valuing the development of China-Mongolia comprehensive strategic partnership is firm and clear. The Chinese side’s willingness to support Mongolia’s economic and social development through cooperation with the Mongolian side is sincere and consistent. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Mongolia diplomatic relations and the 25th anniversary of the revise of Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between China and Mongolia, relations between the two countries face important opportunities for further development. To promote China-Mongolia relations for constant and in-depth development, both sides should maintain close high-level exchanges, consolidate the political foundation of bilateral relations, strengthen the integration between the Belt and Road Initiative and the development strategies of the Mongolian side, and elevate bilateral economic and trade cooperation to a higher level. Both sides should well implement assistance in development, people’s livelihood and other areas, as well as well implement the preferential export buyer’s credit projects. Both sides should speed up the implementation of major project cooperation in such fields as energy and mineral, deepen bilateral exchanges in legislative bodies, culture, health, tourism, sports, youth, and media, enhance exchanges and cooperation between departments related to diplomacy, law enforcement and security, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional issues.

Damdin Tsogtbaatar expressed that developing friendly and cooperative relations with China is the top priority of Mongolia diplomatic policies. Mongolia and China respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and respect each other’s development path and core interests, with mutual understanding and trust being constantly deepened. Both sides carry out cooperation in various fields on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, enjoy rapidly growing bilateral trade, fruitful results in practical cooperation and increasing personnel exchanges and intensify coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. Mongolia-China relations have developed successfully, becoming a model of state-to-state relations. The Mongolian side appreciated the Chinese side’s gesture of upholding neighborhood diplomacy policy featuring amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and benefiting neighboring countries through its own development achievements. The Mongolian side reiterated that it will unswervingly adhere to the one-China policy, and that Taiwan and Xi Zang are inalienable parts of China, and that Xinjiang-related, Xi Zang-related and Taiwan-related affairs are China's internal affairs.

Damdin Tsogtbaatar said that “building a community with a shared future for mankind” proposed by President Xi Jinping is of great significance, and it will play an important role in safeguarding world peace and stability and promoting the common development of various countries. The Mongolian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, take the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to maintain close high-level exchanges, strengthen cooperation in various areas such as politics, economy, people-to-people and cultural engagement, cooperation at local level, security and law enforcement and constantly advance cooperation projects in agriculture, animal husbandry, mining, energy, transportation and infrastructure construction within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to continuously enrich the connotation of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
